Have you noticed that there is a giant rock at the entrance to the park?  Well of course you have, it sits right smack dab in the middle of the drive!

We aren't exactly sure  how "THE ROCK" came to find  it's current resting spot in the entranceway, or where it came from for that matter.  The one thing that we do know for sure is the fact that it has been there for as long as any of us "youngsters" can remember.  However, the park is in the midst of a major overhaul (our renovation/modernization project) and "THE ROCK" has become an obstacle to be reckoned with.  "THE ROCK" severely limits the ability of large vehicles to swing into the park entrance without a little driver finesse.  Gravel trucks, concrete trucks, and the Pepsi delivery guy have got to be very careful as they enter the park. We sometimes have heavy equipment in the park to perform large jobs (bulldozers, etc...) and the Semi trucks that bring this equipment find it all but impossible to negotiate the turn into the park.

The members of the park seem to be rather fond of "THE ROCK" and we really don't want to see it go away, but something has got to give!  We have had discussions about moving "THE ROCK" to a more prominent place within the park, but we can't figure out how to pick it up and move it!
We have also entertained the idea of just getting rid of "THE ROCK" altogether, but we can't find anybody that wants a 'plus size' pet rock!

"THE ROCK" has been a fixture in Whitestown for many a years, and I don't think there is a kid, or an adult for that matter, in town that hasn't climbed around on "THE ROCK" at least once in their liftetime.
"THE ROCK" was even at the center of a small controversey not that long ago, when the ownership of the park entrance drive was called into question.

The bottom line is that we need to find a new home for "THE ROCK" but we are at wits end about how to go about accomplishing that goal.  If you have any ideas, or know how to go about relocating a 20+ ton rock, please contact us.

UPDATE: Lion Brad Konija secured the services of "Accurate Excavation" to come in and move "THE ROCK" from the center of the park's entrance to a prominent position on one of the islands in our parking lot.  The rock is still a permanent fixture in the park, but it is now in a less imposing position.  We are happy that we are able to continue to provide sanctuary for "THE ROCK".  We intend to perform some nice landscaping around "THE ROCK" to make it as comfortable as possible in it's new home.

UPDATE#2:  Jim Gamble of Whitestown Sent us the following message:
"The rock that sat at the entrance to the park was discovered at the intersection of main street and what is commonly called pigturd avenue while we were installing the sewer lines in the 1970's.  The park entrance was the closest place for it.  I'm glad you kept it in the park."
