Whitestown Lions Club won the new facility of the year award for NSA for 2010

Not as if we have the nicest fields, dugouts etc. of any place in the state
but apparently we handled the tournaments well, took good care of the
diamonds and our guests and everyone was happy with how things were ran.

High points were: closeness of ball diamonds, atmosphere, playground, ease
of parking, concession stand food variety/quality/prices, shade and
maintenance of diamonds during tournaments.  I guess bigger is not always
better (HSE for example)

As a result, we've been awarded to host 4 more tournaments in 2011 for 10U
and 12U.  These will be huge tournaments and we will need even more help.
12U's tend to bring a lot of teams.

1)We have got to do some cleanup.  The recent ice storm has caused some damage to a few of our
trees and we need to cut up and clean up a bunch of limbs. UPDATE: Lion Brad Konija brought out a
backhoe to perform some heavy duty cleanup. We also utilized some community service individuals to
clean up brush and limbs. All that is left is to burn the piles of brush.

2)We also need to backfill alongside the new sidewalks with the pile of dirt that is down beside the
dumpster.  We want to backfill and slope the dirt out far enough to be able to run the mower over the
walks (without damaging the blades) in order to eliminate the need to weed-eat along the walks.
UPDATE: The sidewalks have been backfilled by the fine folks at "Especially Gardens"

3)We also need to try and finish up the dirt work on the new diamond, and get it ready for use.
UPDATE: We would like to thank "EARTH RESOURCES" for leveling out the dirt and creating the
outfield mound on the new diamond. They also graded out some additional parking spaces down near
the dumpster area and added some stone.  All that is left to do on the new diamond is the finish work
and grass seeding.

4)We will also be removing the little hill behind the backstop on diamond
#1 in order to promote better run off and drainage of this diamond.  The water on this diamond always
seems to accumulate around home plate and down the first base line.  We feel that we can eliminate
this problem with very little work.

5)Improve the bathrooms.  Update: The womens restrooms have been completely remodeled. New
floor, new plumbing, 3rd toilet, and new divider walls, and new soap dispenser.

6) Improve the Volleyball area.  Update: We have outlined the volleyball court using a sod cutter to
clean up the edges to improve asthetics.  We have also brought in 2 dump truck loads of sand to top
off the pit.

7) We have installed a drinking fountain of the side of the bathrooms.
